Job Description

As Chef de Partie, you’ll run a section confidently during service, support menu development, and help us deliver consistently brilliant food — from busy daytime trade to seasonal specials and events.

Key responsibilities

  • Ownership: Set up, run and close your section to a high standard
  • Menu development: Contribute ideas, trial dishes, and help evolve our offering
  • Seasonal menus: Help create and deliver seasonal menu changes, keeping food fresh and relevant
  • Forecasting: Support prep planning and forecasting based on covers, weather, weekends/events, and trading patterns
  • Ordering & stock: Assist with ordering, receiving, stock rotation, portion control and waste reduction
  • Supplier knowledge: Work closely with local suppliers, understanding provenance and product quality
  • Quality & consistency: Ensure every plate meets our standards for taste, presentation and speed
  • Food safety: Maintain excellent hygiene, labelling, allergen controls and HACCP processes
  • Teamwork: Support junior team members and collaborate smoothly with FOH to keep service flowing

What we’re looking for

  • Experience as a Chef de Partie (or strong Commis ready to step up) in a fast-paced kitchen
  • Minimum Level 3 Food Hygiene certification (or willing to obtain immediately)
  • Confidence working under pressure while staying calm, organised and positive
  • Strong knowledge of seasonal cooking and interest in local, quality ingredients
  • Great time management, clean working habits, and attention to detail
  • A team player with a good attitude — reliable, respectful, and proactive
  • Someone who brings energy: we work hard, but we always keep it fun

Standard kitchen requirements

  • Ability to handle busy services
  • Comfortable with early starts, weekends, and peak-time shifts
  • Good knife skills, prep discipline, and station organisation
  • Clear communication and a “no drama” approach to teamwork

What you’ll get

  • A supportive, friendly team in a community-focused café
  • Real input into menu development and seasonal changes
  • A fast-paced kitchen where you can grow — and enjoy the ride

Job Requirements

  • Chef de Partie experience in a busy café/restaurant (or a strong Commis ready to step up)
  • Solid service experience: running a section, keeping pace during peak brunch/lunch rushes
  • Confidence with prep planning (batching, timing, quality checks, section set-up/close-down)
  • Experience supporting menu development and seasonal menu changes
  • Basic forecasting skills (prep to covers, weekends, weather, events) and keeping waste low
  • Ordering + stock control: rotation, date labelling, deliveries, portion control
  • Minimum Level 3 Food Hygiene (and strong allergen/HACCP awareness)
  • Knowledge of / interest in local suppliers and ingredient provenance

Personality traits that matter at Toaststores

  • Calm under pressure: you stay steady, even when the tickets stack up
  • Fast + organised: clean station, sharp timing, strong priorities
  • Positive team energy: you communicate clearly and back others up without ego
  • High standards, no fuss: you care about consistency and detail, but you’re not precious
