Since opening last March, The Lavery has quickly built a strong reputation, with generous reviews from The Times and The Guardian and a growing base of regular guests.

As the restaurant and kitchen continue to grow, we are looking for a Junior Sous Chef to join our team and become part of the next stage of our journey.

This is a senior role for someone experienced, mature and ready to take on more responsibility alongside the Head Chef and Sous Chef. You will help bridge the gap between the Chef de Parties and the senior management team, supporting the day-to-day running of the kitchen while continuing to grow yourself.

We cook obsessively seasonal, Mediterranean-inspired food with care, clarity and restraint. Everything is made from scratch - from fresh pasta, bread to ice cream, stocks and sauces. The food is simple in spirit, but thoughtful in detail.

Led by Yohei Furuhashi, formerly of The River Café, Toklas and Petersham Nurseries, the kitchen is focused, ambitious and still growing. We work closely with an experienced front-of-house team, supported by encouraging reviews and a loyal customer base.

We are looking for someone who understands seasonal Mediterranean cooking, takes pride in good preparation and detail, and has the maturity to support others without needing to be the loudest person in the room. Food costing awareness, organisation, consistency and a sense of ownership are all important for this role.

This is a good opportunity for someone who wants to step further into a senior position, take on real responsibility, and help shape a young restaurant as it grows.

You do not need to be perfect. You do need to care, listen, think ahead, work hard, and bring calm, positive energy to the kitchen.

Job Requirements

A Junior Sous Chef who:

  • is mature, calm, organised and reliable
  • can support the Head Chef and Sous Chef in daily kitchen operations
  • helps guide and support Chef de Parties and junior chefs
  • understands seasonal Mediterranean cooking
  • has good awareness of food cost, wastage and ordering
  • takes ownership of their section, prep, standards and service
  • takes pride in cleanliness, seasoning, consistency and detail
  • wants to keep learning, improving and taking on more responsibility
