Job Description

Potter & Reid is a neighbourhood café in the heart of Spitalfields, born out of a love of food, drinks, hospitality, and community.

We’re a small, independent and all-female-led business, passionate about creating thoughtful food and warm experiences for the people who walk through our doors. Since opening in 2022, the café has grown organically into a much-loved local spot, alongside an exciting and fast-growing catering and events side of the business.

We serve beautifully crafted breakfast and lunch dishes in a relaxed daytime café setting, alongside excellent coffee and a counter full of cakes, cookies and seasonal bakes made entirely in-house.

The kitchen is headed up by our Head Chef Dylan, with menus changing regularly to reflect the seasons and the ingredients available to us. Our food is simple, comforting and ingredient-led - everything made from scratch with care, precision and attention to detail.

We work closely with some brilliant suppliers including Shrub, McKanna, Neal’s Yard Dairy, Hendersons and La Sovrana, and believe that simple food is only as good as the ingredients behind it.

Our kitchen is small but well-equipped, meaning preparation, organisation and teamwork are essential to a smooth and enjoyable service. The kitchen is open to the café, so you’ll naturally interact with both our front-of-house team and customers throughout the day.

As a small and growing business, collaboration is a huge part of what we do. We actively encourage creativity, input and the sharing of ideas across the whole team, and we’re looking for someone excited by the opportunity to contribute, grow with us, and help shape the next stage of Potter & Reid.

Alongside the café, we also run regular supper clubs, events and external catering jobs for clients who love our food and ethos - making this a varied, creative and dynamic role.

Work/life balance is genuinely important to us, and we aim to create an environment where people feel supported, valued and able to enjoy life outside of work too.

Job Requirements

We’re looking for a creative, organised and passionate Café Chef to join our team full-time.

You’ll work closely with Dylan, the owners, and the wider team across all aspects of the kitchen - from daily café prep and service to menu development, baking and catering projects.

This role would suit someone who thrives in a fast-paced but supportive environment, enjoys cooking seasonally, and takes real pride in producing consistently delicious food.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and cooking breakfast and lunch dishes to a consistently high standard
  • Daily baking of cookies, cakes, tarts and other counter items
  • Collaborating on changing seasonal menus and weekly specials
  • Supporting our catering and events operation, from menu development through to execution
  • Maintaining high standards of food safety, cleanliness and organisation
  • Assisting with ordering, stock management and ingredient sourcing
  • Working closely with the front-of-house team to ensure smooth service
  • Contributing ideas and creativity to the ongoing development of the business

What We’re Looking For

  • At least 1 year’s experience working as a chef in a café or similar kitchen environment
  • A genuine love of food, hospitality and seasonal cooking
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Confidence working independently and making decisions
  • Calmness under pressure and the ability to multitask
  • A positive, collaborative attitude and willingness to learn
  • Good understanding of food safety and kitchen hygiene
  • Someone excited by the energy and opportunities that come with working in a growing independent business

Hours & Perks

  • Full-time position — 4 days per week
  • Fixed rota
  • One weekend day off every week
  • Additional hours occasionally available for events and holiday cover

Perks include:

  • Cost-price wine and food ingredients
  • One free bag of coffee each week
  • Monthly team socials
