About the Role

We’re on the lookout for a hands-on, people-focused General Manager to lead the day-to-day operations at independently owned The Whistling Oyster, Fishmongers and Seafood Bar in Chiswick, West London. This role suits someone who loves hospitality, has a passion for seafood, and enjoys leading a close-knit team in a busy, exciting environment.

You’ll be right in the mix supporting the team, keeping standards high, and making sure every customer leaves happy, whether they’re picking up seafood for home or settling in for some oysters and fizz at the bar.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Overseeing daily operations across the fishmonger and seafood bar
  • Making sure seafood handling, food safety, and hygiene standards are always spot on
  • Leading, training, and motivating the team across fishmongers, kitchen, and front-of-house
  • Creating staff rosters and fostering a positive, team-first workplace culture
  • Managing stock, ordering, and minimising waste to keep things fresh and efficient
  • Working closely with seafood suppliers to ensure quality, consistency, and sustainability
  • Keeping an eye on budgets, staffing costs, and overall performance
  • Handling customer feedback with care and professionalism
  • Supporting promotions, specials, and events that showcase great seafood and wine

Job Requirements

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience managing or supervising in hospitality, food, or seafood-focused venues
  • Solid knowledge of food safety and seafood handling practices
  • A natural leader who’s hands-on, organised, and calm under pressure
  • Strong communication skills and a genuine love of customer service
  • Experience in front-of-house, bar, or food service roles
  • Passion for fresh seafood and quality produce
  • Hospitality or food-related qualifications are a bonus, but not essential
