Job Description
We’re looking for a Lead Baker / Pastry Chef to help launch and lead a new small neighbourhood bakery in Islington supplying our two coffee shops, High Ground.
This is a hands-on role with genuine responsibility and creative input from the beginning. The bakery is starting small and simple, with the aim of building something special over time with a strong neighbourhood feel, high-quality products and a positive working environment.
The role will include:
• Leading daily small scale bakery production
• Producing pastries, cakes and seasonal items
• Helping shape and develop the product range
• Managing prep, organisation and bakery workflow
• Maintaining consistency and quality standards
• Supporting with ordering, systems and launch organisation
• Helping create a positive, collaborative team culture
• Working closely with ownership during the bakery launch and growth phase
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys independent bakeries, likes involvement with launch and building things from the ground up and wants genuine input into the direction of a growing business.
Job Requirements
• Experience working in a bakery or pastry kitchen environment
• Strong knowledge of pastry, viennoiserie or small-batch bakery production
• Good organisation and ability to manage production independently
• Positive attitude and strong team mentality
• Good attention to detail and pride in quality and consistency
• Comfortable helping shape systems and workflows in a growing bakery
• Interest in neighbourhood bakery culture, hospitality and seasonal products
• Leadership or senior bakery experience preferred
• Someone proactive, reliable and excited to help build something from the beginning
