Job Description

The De Beauvoir Deli is an established fine food store, takeaway, café and caterer in East London. We are seeking an Assistant General Manager to lead our café operation as we expand into a new early evening drinks and small plates offer this summer.

Reporting to the General Manager and supported by Shift Supervisors, the AGM (Café) will take responsibility for front-of-house performance across daytime and evening service. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring confidence, consistency and strong organisational skills.

The position combines operational oversight with active participation in service. As part of our evening model, food will be plated and finished by the front-of-house team, so the role requires confidence handling food, maintaining presentation standards, and ensuring compliance without back-of-house support during certain shifts.

You will lead service, manage rotas and recruitment, oversee stock and compliance, and work closely with the kitchen team to deliver a polished but relaxed hospitality experience.

Responsibilities include:

Day-to-day leadership of café operations across day and evening trade
Leading from the floor during service
Hands-on involvement in food plating and quality control
Maintaining high service and presentation standards
Rota planning, recruitment and staff development
Supporting financial performance and reporting
Development and delivery of the new evening offer
Ordering, stock control and facilities oversight
Ensuring regulatory compliance
Clear communication between café, shop and kitchen teams

Job Requirements

The role requires flexibility across trading hours, including regular evening shifts.

Some prior experience with wine service is essential, and confidence with classic cocktails is highly desirable as we build our early evening offer.

This position would suit an experienced café manager or senior supervisor ready for broader responsibility, or a steady operator seeking meaningful ownership within an established independent business.
