Job Description

Teal is looking for a brilliant Sous Chef or Senior Sous Chef to join our small kitchen team in Hackney.

We’re an independent British bistro founded by chef Sally Abé, serving seasonal, produce-led food rooted in British ingredients, traditions and food history.

We’re looking for an experienced chef who wants to take on real responsibility and play an important part in the next chapter of Teal.

The role

Working closely with Sally, you’ll be a senior member of the kitchen team, helping to lead day-to-day services, maintain standards and develop the food at Teal.

You’ll be involved in:

• Leading and running services
• Menu development and seasonal changes
• Supporting, training and developing the kitchen team
• Maintaining consistently high standards of food and presentation
• Ordering, stock control, GP and minimising waste
• Food safety, kitchen organisation and cleanliness
• Working closely with Sally and the FOH team
• Helping build a positive, calm and professional kitchen culture

Job Requirements

First and foremost, you need to be a really good cook.

You’ll have strong restaurant experience, be organised and dependable and be comfortable taking responsibility. You should care about produce, seasonality and proper cooking, with an interest in British food and where it comes from.

We’re a very small team, so attitude matters. We want someone who communicates well, takes ownership, responds positively to feedback and treats the people around them with respect.

This could suit an experienced Sous Chef or Senior Sous Chef looking for more creative input and responsibility, or an ambitious chef who wants to take the next step towards eventually running a kitchen.

There’s real opportunity to contribute ideas, develop dishes and put your own stamp on the food while working closely alongside Sally.
