About B. Penhale
Penhale’s is a British and Irish restaurant in the heart of Smithfield, taking inspiration from the regional dishes, traditions and rituals of Victorian dining. Our cooking celebrates seasonal British produce and close relationships with farmers and producers, with whole-carcass butchery at the heart of the kitchen. We make use of offal and lesser-used cuts, looking to the past while cooking in a way that feels relevant today. Our 60-cover dining room sits alongside a small, six-seat bar with its own changing chalkboard menu for walk-ins. Here, we take a broader look at British and Irish food and the influence migration has had on how we eat. Our wine list has a particular focus on British winemakers, both at home and abroad, alongside wines and regions with a connection to Victorian Britain.
Workplace Culture
We care deeply about what we do and want to work with people who share that enthusiasm. We have high standards, but believe the best restaurants are built on warmth, generosity and mutual respect rather than formality or ego. We want Penhale’s to be a place where people feel supported, are encouraged to learn and develop, and take real pride in looking after one another as well as our guests. Attention to detail matters to us, but so does enjoying the work and creating a restaurant with genuine personality.
