About Food Behind Bars
We work with prisons on the subject of food - to improve the lives of those eating it and support the people making it. This involves collaborating closely with prisoners, catering staff and governors on a range of food-based projects that have a positive effect on prison life. We redesign menus, host cooking competitions, establish food committees, deliver practical culinary training to prisoners and establish food-based enterprises within the prison walls - whether this is a working kitchen garden or an in-house bakery. We work resourcefully within the existing logistical and financial parameters prisons face because we believe good, simple food has the power to influence behaviour, violence, mental health and overall rehabilitation.Workplace Perks
