About us

We are an independently owned dynamic company looking for a café manager. We are very ambitious and working to become a leader in the speciality coffee sector. We were founded to improve and develop the speciality coffee offering in areas where we see clear room for improvement.
This premium café will serve as our flagship space in London. We have chosen the location because there is a clear need for a speciality coffee shop in the area and because of the historical and cultural significance of our neighbourhood.

Role description

We are looking for a candidate who is interested in furthering their career in the coffee/hospitality sector and is interested in building a long-term career with us. As the café is a new venture, there will be plenty of opportunities to convey ideas, take initiative, and work independently. You will work very closely with the founder to implement and develop their vision. We truly believe that our people are critical to our success and as a manager, you will be a critical factor in this formula.
We plan to open in February 2020. In the run-up to opening, it’s crucial that you, as a Manager, are involved in most of the work leading up to the launch date, this additional work could run alongside your role once we are open.

• Help the owner with setting up for approximately the first month of employment
• This is a role with managerial responsibilities where you will lead by example, interact with customers, and work through various general shift duties as a team member
• Stock control and ordering, accurate recording of purchases and expenses, POS system management and team management
• Creating and managing an efficient staff rota within an approved expense budget
• Supervise the work of all staff and recognise training needs as appropriate
• Develop and implement systems and procedures pertaining to the running of a café
• Develop relationships within the wider coffee and customer community
• Community management and growth - being the voice of the brand and actively working to build relationships with our customers, and raise awareness of our businesses
• We want the café to feel like a community space so the manager needs to be very sociable and able to speak to and engage with customers to introduce them to the products we have
• Drive productivity and profitability by identifying opportunities to streamline processes and reduce waste
• Actively seek out customer feedback to develop and evolve all client services at the location, ensuring regular adjustments and improvements are both recommended and implemented
• Ensure that product quality is always exceptional and any product feedback is quickly addressed
• Ensure that the cafe is maintained according to sanitation and cleaning standards.
• Ability to cover both weekend and weekday shifts
• Preparing food and drinks
• Direct contact with suppliers and partner companies for service and event coordination and organisation
• Monitoring developing trends within the speciality coffee industry to identify and develop new products and services
• Opening/closing duties
• Creating content for our social media platforms
• Maintain and develop the team
• Executing and developing our existing food menu
• Creating and costing up new exciting dishes and drinks
• Responsible to develop, oversee and undertake catering opportunities in the area
• Responding to call/email enquires
• Detailed reporting to the director
• Managing health & safety, and risk assessment paperwork using appropriate software
• keep abreast of industry trends, food innovations and ingredients, and share fresh ideas and inspirations with the kitchen and front of house teams to optimise operations

Ideal candidate

• Experience at a successful high-volume venue in a supervisory/managerial role
• Computer literacy and an ability to learn how to utilise software quickly
• A real passion (obsession) for amazing coffees’ provenience, processing methods, brewing methods, and focus on fantastic food and customer service with an appreciation and respect for high standards and consistency
• Exceptional personal hygiene and presentation skills
• Exceptional barista skills, coffee knowledge, and milk texturising skills
• Positive hands-on attitude and Proactive in problem-solving and communicating
• Commitment to the concept and the company
• Interested in growing the business and their own personal career
• Be open, approachable, mindful and positive
• Willing to take the initiative to step into other roles as and when needed
• Knowledge of the current coffee market in the UK
• Full understanding of food safety and hygiene
• Proven record of excellent teamwork/management skills
• Loves the cafe environment and vibe
• Excellent English communication skills, knowledge of a European language is a bonus
• Valid right to work in the UK

Pay: £25,000 - £38,000 (inclusive of performance-based discretionary bonus of up to 50% of base salary.)
