About Prawn on the Lawn

Prawn on the Lawn in Islington is a fully licensed fishmonger and restaurant situated near to Islington’s buzzing Upper Street. Established in 2013 by Rick Toogood and his wife Katie, it began life as a seafood bar and fishmonger but has now been extended to include a 35 seater restaurant and 16 seating private dining room, serving only the freshest seafood and tapas-style fish dishes. Prawn on the Lawn serves creative plates including seared tuna, thai style scallops and our signature Prawn on the Lawn dish, as well as larger platters such as Crab, Lobster, Fruits De Mer and fresh fish you can pick from the counter, sourced directly from day boats and fish markets in Devon and Cornwall. We make every effort to be as seasonal and sustainable as possible and change our menu every day.

In May 2015 Katie and Rick decided to move to Cornwall to set up a second restaurant, Prawn On the Lawn Padstow leaving POTL Islington in the capable hands of their dedicated team. Opened in July 2015, it follows a similar format to the restaurant in Islington being a fully licensed fishmonger and restaurant. Still a small operation with only 24 covers, the menu changes every day and aims to be as sustainable as possible, working with local suppliers in Padstow and the surrounding areas. In 2017 POTL Padstow was named of of the Times Top 100 restaurants in the UK and also featured in the Michelin Guide. Rick and Katie now work between their 2 restaurants in order to maintain their family owned feel

Role description

We are looking for a candidate that is passionate about all thing fish! Ambition, drive, common sense and a want to learn new things are the qualities we are looking for. Recently voted one of the Top 100 restaurants in the UK and featuring in the Michelin Guide we will provide fantastic training and fun working environment.

 

Prawn on the Lawn is a working fishmongers where we build our menu based on the catch we receive from our fisherman in Cornwall and Devon. We are a busy, fast paced restaurant serving sharing small plates and large plates as well as fish cooked from our fish counter. We are also working fishmongers where people can choose fish from the counter to eat in or take home to cook.

 

Filleting the fish, cooking, and supporting the head chef and sous chef in the running of the kitchen is just a small part of the role.

Desired experience/skills

Some experience in a kitchen is necessary. However we value a willingness to learn over experience. We can teach you everything you need to know.
