About us

Bodega Rita’s is based on Lower Stable Street in Coal Drops Yard. Drawing influence from corner shops found across the US from the North to the South, the global deli exhibits the best of North American comfort food. Bodega Rita’s serves its takeaway sandwiches at lunchtime by day to drinks and small plates at night. Founders Gabriel and Missy uphold the traditions in cultures they witnessed throughout their travels and bring these back to the deli, using ingredients sourced much closer to home.

Bodega Rita's is part of Rita's Dining founded by Missy and Gabe in 2012.  We are both committed to building long term, lasting relationships with everyone who works in our business and always do whatever is in our reach to enhance both your time with us and your longer term career goals. 


Gabriel is an experienced, self taught cook who, outside of Rita's, has spent time at The Marksman, Brawn, Brat, Lilia and Estela in New York and more. 

Missy regularly contributes to panels and workshops about women in food/business.

Role description

We are looking for an experienced chef to join our team working on a part time basis at our Bodega and Sandwich shop in Kings Cross. 

It is open 7 days a week with sociable hours

10:30-6pm Monday to Friday

11am-7pm Saturday

11am-5pm Sunday

This role is for 3 days a week and would suit someone with other part time work, a parent, student etc.

You will be working with Spasia, our Operational Manager and Head Chef to make delicious, fresh, quality deli-style sandwiches in a busy lunch time grab and go. In addition, we have lots of opportunity to get involved with R&D, trying out new recipes and developing menus for our offsite catering business too.  We have a Natural wine programme led by Missy and her brother Cameron who is wine buyer for Bao and Xu restaurants (JKS). You are encouraged to get involved in wine trainings, tastings and special events too. 

We run a guest chef series which means you will at times get to work alongside other great chefs and talents in F&B. Previous and confirmed guests include Ali Borer (Smoking Goat) Oli Brown (Duck Duck Goose), Anais Van Manen (Bao, Snackbar) , Chris Leach (Manteca) , Riaz Phillips (Bellyful, Vice), Nud Dudhia (Breddos)





  • To be punctual and ready to work at the allotted time in order to be ready for opening to guests.
  • To produce all food within the guidelines set out by the Group Chef and in line with the food and beverage philosophy of Rita’s.
  • To maintain a hygienic, clean and safe working environment at all times in accordance with the law and the company policies.
  • To monitor and manage all food stock levels daily to ensure Bodega Rita’s neither runs out nor is over stocked and cause wastage.
  • To monitor and maintain all fridge Temperature Charts, Delivery Charts, Invoice Recorder and Stock Take forms to ensure the best, most efficient and hygienic running of the kitchen. - This is overseen by management. 
  • To process all food orders in a quick and efficient manner in accordance with the service guidelines of the company.
  • To report to Management any and all complaints, incidents, accidents or other irregularities on a daily basis.
  • To carry out any reasonable request made by management , delegating only where appropriate.
  • To thoroughly familiarise yourself with all current menus and forth coming promotions, menu changes, specials etc. to actively maintain an interest in the products that we serve and engage both guests and staff with that knowledge, to lead by example and encourage any team members to do the same.
  • To wear uniform correctly when required and to be dressed smartly and comfortably in accordance with your position. 

Ideal candidate

The shop is small, with an emphasis on quick service, with friendly, approachable guest interaction. This is not the role for someone who wants to hide away in the kitchen! We are currently refurbishing the shop ready for a busy summer and will have a brand new work space.

There is often just one chef on service with one front of house so you must work quickly and be well organised, keep a tidy work space and be self motivated. Someone who has experience of cooking in a fast -service cafe/ deli would be and advantage, as well as a chef who shares our passion for travel, global exploration , food references and delicious well made food.
